Painters' Exhalations 160
—after Leon Golub's The Arrest

What can be performed as
the pointed finger of a pistol’s
strongest hand
is seconds from the back of
an overwrought head? Stilled
eagle wingspan paused from the play
of aerial mathematics, palms glued
by vocal command against concrete’s
naked, vertical body. Movement can
overwhelm the ground with a deceased
man. Instead, he, leaning head first into
prosodic prayer, recalls officer command with
collocated childhood demeanor, hoping
the latter can revisit into rooms of peacefully
arranged monuments.

Painters’ Exhalations 164
—after Maria Kholmogorova’ Foreign Children

Unaware of costumed customs.
This is the brilliance of new arrival,
atonement for manipulation attempts
at changing the shape of decency.

Smiles, theirs, enough fabricated
garb to acclimate to
or
display a language of physiology
foreign to the au courant gibberish
maintained by constant seeds of
plentiful planting.

Why the hands continue to mend
their leader, unknown.

Without a thinking pattern
of escape route tendencies,
maze created unending obstacles
awaits those little ones with the guarding
eldest sibling.

A wait to become self
may adhere to danger.
Their steps into motional
unknown captured educational attention
is the hoped for reality the youthful
can appropriate into manufactured
routine.

Painters’ Exhalations 225
—after NH (Tony) Stubbing’s Spring Ceremonial

Death, a prevalence, a cyclic
behavior milestone reiteration
birthing itself in the permanent
architecture of memories, sealed eyelids.

Movement of earth-spins
hides in months’ appointments, calendared
reality changed when time shifts its way
quickly forward, or
falls into a tired notion, developing
a dark disposition, sequenced
earlier.

Spring is metaphor, fata morgana, appearing
prior to a heated development, positioned
in crevices following chilled reactions,
dangling from branches and anointment
of pastel oils smeared on the fantastic forehead.
