L'Intrigue, the Wild Magnolia of Literature

Volume 11 - Issue I

Leaves of a Tree

by Ali Mageehon

Leaves of a tree, a pecan tree dance
And a kelp forest flows with the current of salt water

In Tularosa
In Monterey

Who ever said that place matters?

Bombs in Lebanon - again It's as though they never ended

Yesterday I felt
Wondered
Tried
To think what it would mean to be

The last

The last man
The last of a last lost tribe
The last true-born native of Tuvalu
The last Palestinian

It was no use

I was enraptured by the leaves of a tree, a pecan tree, swaying
And a dog on my lap
A memory of a kelp forest
The smell of a mad summer
Billie Holiday softly crooning
